The strengthening of bilateral cooperation was the focus of talks Thursday in Rabat, between the speaker of the House of Advisors, Naam Miyara, and ambassador of the Russian Federation to Morocco, Valerian Vladimirovich Shuvaev.
On this occasion, Miyara expressed his great satisfaction with the level of friendship and cooperation between the Kingdom and Russia, noting that these ties have been further strengthened following the historic visit of HM King Mohammed VI to Moscow in 2016, said a statement by the House of Advisors.
The speaker of the lower house stressed the importance of investing in the opportunities offered by the two countries at the economic and industrial levels, within the framework of the strategic partnership launched by the two Heads of State.
With regard to parliamentary cooperation, Miyara recalled the visit to Morocco in May 2015 of the president of the Council of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko, calling in this sense for accelerating the pace of bilateral relations according to a common action plan, aimed at exchanging experiences and expertise in various areas of cooperation and consultation on regional and international issues, including migration and terrorism.
On the issue of territorial integrity of the Kingdom, Miyara welcomed the support of the Russian Federation to the efforts of the United Nations to find a political and lasting solution to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, emphasizing in this regard the importance and fairness of the autonomy initiative in the southern provinces under Moroccan sovereignty.
Miyara also praised the role played by the Russian Federation on the regional and continental levels for the achievement of African integration, as well as its commitment to peace and stability in Africa, indicating the readiness of the Kingdom to work for the strengthening of Morocco-Africa-Russia triangular cooperation.
For his part, Shuvaev highlighted the climate of security and stability as well as economic progress in the Kingdom, expressing the willingness of his country to deepen and diversify the partnership with Morocco in all social and economic areas in addition to joint action to address the challenges related to security, immigration, peace, development and the impacts of the health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Russian diplomat expressed his country’s support for the efforts of the United Nations to find a final and consensual political solution to the Sahara conflict, noted the statement.
