“We would rather stay in jail than go back to Morocco,” said four migrants who escaped the Casablanca-Istanbul flight in Mallorca airport after one of them allegedly faked a health issue and force-landed the airplane.

Aged 20, 23, 24, and 31, four migrants from the Mallorca’s escape group faced the Investigative Court number 6 on Tuesday, in a hearing situation to determine the personal situation of the defendants.

In November, 13 Moroccan passengers air Arabia burst out of an Air Arabia airplane into the airport of Mallorca.

The authorities say that 25 passengers are involved in the Mallorca escape. They have already arrested 19 passengers, while they continue to hunt the 6 fugitives who are still in the run.

The 4 fugitives were detained in the Mallorcan town Sa Pobla, in a joint operation deployed by Civil guards and Spanish police.

The four arrested migrants assured that on November 5 they got on the Air Arabia Maroc plane in Casablanca with backpacks, as their intention was to immigrate to Turkey.

One of them said that his vitiligo disease brings him “death threats” in the Kingdom, which is why he decided to immigrate, according to OKBALEARES.

They insisted that there was no orchestrated plan and that they were unaware of the Facebook group Brooklyn that its posts explained the plan of illegal entry into Spain, which matches the Mallorca’s escape.

One of the detainees said that he was scared of not making it to turkey after the plane’s emergence landing in Spain, that’s why he ran away when the plane’s door open.

The three others said that they saw the emergency landing in Son Sant Joan as an opportunity that they could not miss entering Europe.

They also said that when they left the airport Moroccans lived in Sa Pobla, a Mallorcan town with a high percentage of the Maghreb population.
The defense lawyers requested that they be released in exchange for the withdrawal of the passport and the obligation to go to court once a week.
