Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz signed a defense memorandum with his counterpart Abdellatif Loudiyi, Delegate Minister in charge of the National Defense Administration, during the first day of his two-day visit to Rabat.

Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz is on a two-day visit to Morocco on Nov. 24 to 25, becoming the first Israeli defense minister to visit Morocco after normalizing ties.

The first defense agreement signed by an Israeli official with the Kingdom, aims to deepen cooperation across areas such as intelligence sharing, research and joint military training.

An Israeli Defense Ministry spokesman said Morocco and Israel signed a defense memorandum in Rabat on Wednesday, opening the way for potential military sales and cooperation after the two countries upgraded diplomatic ties last year.

The signed agreement does not stipulate specific deals, but it does allow Israeli defense companies to do business with the kingdom, according to the spokesman of Israel’s defense minister.

Gantz started his visit to Rabat today by visiting the tomb of Mohammed V, where he laid a wreath and wrote in the visitors’ book.

He is expected to meet a number of senior figures in Morocco, including Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security, as well as Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita.
