At least two people were killed and several others wounded, as Taliban fighters opened fire on a wedding party for playing music, sources announced today.

The shots resulted in 10 injuries and 2 deaths, in Sarkh Rud district, eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar, on Friday.

A local hospital in the district confirmed the admission of at least two dead and six wounded.

The provincial spokesman for the Taliban in the province, Hanif Nangarhari, confirmed the incident but blamed “unidentified militants”, a source from the hospital mentioned.

When ruling the country between 1996 and 2001, the Taliban completely banned music, considering it “a sin and against the teachings of Islam.”

Now that the Taliban took over Afghanistan last August, many musicians left the country, while others abandoned their profession and hid their instruments.
