Despite a rise in GDP over the past years at the regional level, especially in the regions located outside the Tangiers-El Jadida axis, regional disparities still hamper national economic activity, according to the memorandum of the regional distribution of investment.

Casablanca-Settat region recorded the most important rate in terms of contribution to the national GDP, during the period 2011-2019, by 32.6 percent, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region with 16.5 percent, and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima with 10.2 percent, while Fez-Meknes region came at the fourth rank with 9.2 percent.

The four mentioned regions account for 68.4 percent of the national GDP.

“Th recorded GDP should be addressed to achieve regional integration as one of the main recommendations of the new development model, which aims to strengthen the role of the regions as a distinct ground for the effective and integrated download of public policies.”

It is expected that the financial appropriations allocated to public investment during 2022 will rise to MAD 245 billion, an increase of about 6.5 percent, according to the data shared by the memorandum of regional distribution of investment within the draft finance law for the year 2022.

The MAD 245 billion budget for the next fiscal year will be distributed among the state budget, amounting to MAD 88.9 billion, the Mohammed VI Investment Fund with MAD 45 billion, public contracting and institutions with MAD 92.1 billion, and territorial authorities with MAD 19 billion .

The government is counting on the Mohammed VI Investment Fund to improve the situation of public and private investment and raise the capabilities of the national economy to face the negative repercussions of the health crisis, as the fund will enable the productive sectors to benefit from financial support and keep pace with major projects programmed within the framework of the partnership between the public and private sectors.
