Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte was placed under police protection in response to fears of an attack by the Mocro Mafia (Moroccan Mafia).

The Mocro Mafia is a North African criminal organization that operates out of the Netherlands and Belgium and controls a third of all cocaine traffic in Europe.

The move comes after Dutch media reported on Monday that the Royal and Diplomatic Security Services deployed personal security guards to protect the PM, who is believe to be under threat from the Mocro Mafia.

The Mocro Mafia has been mounting an intimidation campaign targeting prominent Dutch journalists and authorities, leading to the Prime Minister’s increased security detail.

Two months earlier, prominent investigative journalist Peter R. de Vries was shot in broad daylight and died nine days later.

At the time of his shooting, de Viers was acting as a spokesperson for a former Mocro Mafia member turned informant.

Dutch media reported that his suspected murderer is believed to have been acting on the orders of Ridouan Taghi, leader of the Mocro Mafia, currently being held in a Dutch prison.

The Mocro Mafia was founded in the 1990s and is made up of dozens of different clans that traffic cocaine and synthetic drugs across Europe.

The cartel began its operations by smuggling hash from Morocco to Europe, before becoming one of the most powerful cocaine cartels in the Netherlands and then in Belgium.

According to investigations from Dutch journalists, Ridouan Taghi, the son of Moroccan immigrants, was at the head of the operation between 2015 and 2017.

During this period, Taghi made a name for himself through his extremely violent methods, leading to his arrest in the UAE in 2019.

Currently being held in a high-security prison in the Netherlands, Taghi stands accused of having ordered the assassinations of nine people.
