Air traffic has recently increased during the summer season due to the movement of Moroccans residing abroad after flights were scheduled to enable them to return to Morocco.
Commercial international transport traffic at Morocco airports during the month of August recovered 82% of the number of passengers registered during 2019, similar to the rate known to France with 70%, Spain with 68% and Turkey with 76%.
According to the National Office of Airports (ONDA), “the significant growth of air traffic, following the royal instructions to keep pace with the launch of Operation Marhaba 2021, where new airlines were launched and flights were enhanced on the level of other lines by airlines, which contributed to strengthening the air connection to Morocco during this period ‘.
The number of arrivals increased during the second quarter of 2021 to approximately 412 thousand, compared to only 8,300 arrivals during the same quarter of last year, while at the end of the first half of 2021 the decline in the number of arrivals moved to minus 57.3% compared to minus 63.5% a year ago.
Morocco’s airports recorded a good outcome. During the period between June 15 and August 2021, a total of 3,560,526 passengers were received on 31,202 international flights.
These figures compared to the same period in 2019 represent a return rate of 65% for passengers and 77% for the number of international flights.
According to the ONDA, Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca received 1,457,154 international passengers, which represents a recovery rate of 58 percent of the air traffic recorded during the same period in 2019, while Marrakech-Menara Airport received 565,680 passengers, which represents 46 percent.
The ONDA has put in place an important system of measures to receive travelers in healthy and safe conditions at Morocco’s airports, so that they can travel again in safe conditions.
