Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine is slightly more effective than Pfizer’s in preventing hospitalization, according to a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The results of this study showed the Moderna vaccine would better protect against the serious effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the long term.
The results were based on data collected from nearly 3,700 people at 21 hospitals in 18 US states over five months, showing that while all the vaccines work well, the Moderna shot remains the most effective over time.

In the postvaccination antibody analysis, some comparisons were made based on the quantity of anti-spike IgG and anti-RBD IgG among participants by vaccine product received, including Moderna, Pfizer, and Janssen.
This graphic showed that Moderna’s antibodies last for a long time and are more effective than other ones, followed by Pfizer, and then Janssen whose efficiency decreases over time.
Boston-based pharmaceutical company Moderna created this COVID-19 vaccine in May 2021, following an agreement with Australia for the production of 25 million doses.
The Moderna vaccine is an updated booster, contains genetic instructions for cells to make the coronavirus’ spike protein, called mRNA, wrapped in an oily shell that protects it from being immediately degraded by the body, and ensures it’s delivered into cells after injection.
This vaccine has been widely used in countries such as Canada, the US, and the UK under emergency use authorizations granted by these countries and the World Health Organization (WHO).
