Algerian police announced on Wednesday the arrest of 22 suspected members of Movement for the self-determination of Kabylie (MAK), for the fires blazed in northern Algerian towns.

The arrest occurred after the prosecutor in the first chamber of Sidi M’hamed Court placed 22 suspects under temporary detention pending investigation.

Previously arrested, 8 defendants were released and kept under judicial supervision.

The accused were charged the following: felony of carrying out terrorist and sabotage acts targeting the security of the state and the stability of institutions and spreading terror among the population and creating an atmosphere of insecurity through moral and physical abuse of persons.

While attempting to arrest the suspects, several members of the security forces were injured after being attacked with knives.

Raiding homes of the accused enabled the police to detect dangerous seizures that range from accessories of military clothing, computer equipment, metal detector to knives, forged seals, administrative records, banners of the organization and mobile phones.

Cited lately by Algeria when it decided to cut diplomatic relations with the Kingdom, Morocco’s suspected support for MAK was one of the reasons leading to such a decision.
