The World Bank has said that its global strategy for Covid-19 preparedness and response the pandemic will last until 2025.

The World Bank document was created on April 2, 2020, and consists of strategies and resources compiled in response to the threat posed by COVID-19.

It aims to detect and respond to the threat posed by COVID-19 and
strengthen national systems for public health preparedness.

According to the document from the World Bank, it may take several years for the global economy to recover from the pandemic’s effects, this however does not mean that this date correlates with when the pandemic will end.

The entire document mentions the impact on the economy, investments needed from governments and businesses, and other measures the scheduled project is expected to run until 2025.

‘The COVID-19 outbreak is a stark reminder of the ongoing challenge of emerging and reemerging infectious diseases and the need for constant disease surveillance, prompt diagnosis, and robust research to understand the basic biology of new organisms and our susceptibilities to them, as well as to develop effective countermeasures to control them’.the World Bank said.

Through the document, the World Bank referred to the history of some viruses in the world, starting with Hendra virus (1994), Nipah (1998), SARS-CoV (2003), H5N1 Avian Influenza (2005), MERS-CoV (2012), Ebola (2014 and 2018), Lassa Fever (annual outbreaks) and the most recent, COVID-19 ‘These diseases emerge from animals contact with humans and have resulted in major outbreaks with significant public health, social and economic impact’ according to World Bank.

The World Bank has provided $4 billion to purchase and distribute anti-Coronavirus vaccines for 51 developing countries, most of them in Africa.

The World Bank had not provided a date for the end of the pandemic at any point. It is well established that the pandemic has impacted business and the economy, and that even once public life reopens, it could take several years to recover.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the World Bank has agreed to provide more than $150 billion to combat the health, economic and social impacts of the pandemic.

In April 2020, the Bank has boosted its financing by more than 50% and helped more than 100 countries meet emergency health needs.
