Israeli Foreign Affairs spokesman Hassan Kaiba said late Tuesday that statements made by Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid on Algeria’s involvement with Iran were “precise information.”
During his visit to Morocco two weeks ago, Lapid has said his country worries over Algeria “getting close to Iran”, angering Algeria officials who used it as one of the pretexts for cutting diplomatic ties with Morocco on August 24.
“Algeria has become, since the beginning of the Arab Spring, a passage for terrorist movements at the instigation of Iran”, Kaiba said in a statement to the “Madar21” website.
“Cooperation between Algeria and Iran is of particular concern to us as Iran aims to infiltrate all countries”, said the spokesman, adding that the Islamic republic’s actions in the Middle East region were at the origin of the destruction and terrorism raging particularly in Iraq, Syria and Yemen.
“Iran continues to interfere in the affairs of African countries, including Algeria,” said Kaiba.
Morocco ended ties with Iran in 2018, accusing the country of giving funds, training and weapons to the Polisario Front fighters in the Western Sahara.
Morocco said it has evidence showing top officials from Hezbollah and Polisario to have met repeatedly in Sahrawi refugee camps in Algeria through the mediation of Iran.
