Portuguese daily newspaper “A Bola” highlighted the performances of Moroccan international Yassir Zabiri in LaLiga, where he brought his season’s total goal tally to seven goals for Racing Santander, joining Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal in the league’s scoring charts.
The 21 year-old striker scored in his team’s 2-2 draw with Valencia on Sunday in the eighth LaLiga gameweek, his seventh goal of the season, the newspaper reported
Zabiri has scored his seven goals in just 473 minutes of game time, with an average of one goal every 68 minutes, according to the newspaper.
The Portuguese daily noted that the player’s statistics are significant, as Racing Santander returned to Spain’s top flight this season after a 14-year absence. The club currently holds the 16th spot in the league standings.
The newspaper also retraced the player’s career, noting that he joined Portuguese club Famalicão from Union Touarga in 2024 in a transfer estimated at around €600,000. He was initially part of the club’s U-23 team before making the senior squad.
Zabiri scored seven goals in 20 appearances for Famalicão’s first team, prompting French Club Rennes to sign him for €10 million during the last winter transfer window, the newspaper noted.
After a brief spell in the French league, where he made six appearances in the second half of last season, Zabiri joined Racing Santander on loan last summer. He soon became one of the most promising young players in the Spanish league.
The newspaper also recalled the Moroccan striker’s performances at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which Morocco won, during which he scored twice in the final against Argentina.
Zabiri’s performances in the Spanish league, along with his inclusion in Morocco’s national team squad during the latest international break could open up new opportunities at both international and professional levels, the daily concluded.
