A US citizen died Thursday afternoon after falling from a sixth-floor room at a hotel in Tangier, according to sources familiar with the incident who spoke to Hespress.
The man, born in New York in 1957, was pronounced dead at the scene after falling from the room where he had been staying, the sources said.
Local authorities opened an investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine how the fall occurred and the circumstances of the incident.
Sources said investigators were examining the possibility that the man had deliberately jumped. That account remains preliminary, however, and authorities have not officially determined the cause or circumstances of his death.
Investigators are expected to review evidence from the hotel and interview people who may have information about the period before the fall. No further details about the man’s identity, the hotel or the investigation have been released. The public prosecutor has not announced any findings.
