The United Arab Emirates on Saturday condemned the targeting of a vessel affiliated with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, saying no injuries were reported and the situation had been brought under control.
ADNOC said the vessel was targeted by a missile during the early hours of Saturday, August 8, while passing through the strategic waterway.
“No injuries were recorded, and the situation was brought under control,” the company said, according to the UAE’s official Emirates News Agency (WAM).
ADNOC urged the public to rely exclusively on official sources for information and avoid circulating rumors or unverified reports.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs separately issued a statement condemning what it described as the targeting of an ADNOC-affiliated vessel during its passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
Abu Dhabi said the attack was a flagrant violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which strongly condemns attacks against merchant and commercial vessels and rejects actions that threaten the freedom of navigation or disrupt international maritime routes.
The UAE statement said the targeting of commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz could amount to economic coercion or an economic act of aggression and poses a direct threat to regional stability, the security of the UAE and global energy supplies.
The ministry called for Iran to halt such attacks and fully comply with its international obligations, including the need to restore unrestricted and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important maritime chokepoints, carrying a significant share of global energy supplies. Any disruption to shipping through the waterway can have immediate implications for energy markets, international trade and regional security.
The UAE statement did not identify the vessel by name or provide further details about the missile used in the attack.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in and around the Gulf, where the security of commercial shipping and freedom of navigation remain major regional and international concerns.
The UAE said it would continue to support measures aimed at protecting maritime navigation and regional stability.
