Dozens of young people, most of them minors, renewed attempts on Friday evening to reach the Beni Ansar border crossing and nearby fencing leading into the Spanish-controlled enclave of Melilla, according to local reports.

Tensions remained high for a second consecutive day as groups seeking to cross irregularly gathered near the checkpoint and the Barrio Chino area despite a reinforced security deployment imposed since Thursday evening.

Some participants threw stones at security forces and caused disturbances, prompting police to disperse the crowds and use tear gas to restore order, the reports said.

Authorities strengthened their presence around the crossing and continued field operations aimed at preventing further attempts and containing any escalation.

The area remained tense late Friday, with security forces closely monitoring developments.

Several people were also reported stranded inside Melilla after local authorities temporarily closed the border crossing following the disturbances.
