Morocco’s Royal Navy frigate Mohammed VI completed a six-day deployment in New York alongside Senegal’s patrol vessel Niani, demonstrating the African navies’ ability to operate far from home and work with international partners, the U.S. Sixth Fleet said.
The two vessels took part in the International Naval Review 250, including a July 4 fleet review on the Hudson River and professional exchanges focused on readiness, interoperability and maritime security.
The U.S. Navy said the deployment demonstrated the operational reach, crew proficiency and logistical discipline required to sustain naval forces abroad.
Moroccan and Senegalese sailors also joined public tours, cultural exchanges and community events across the New York area.
Admiral George Wikoff, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Africa, said Morocco and Senegal were capable and professional partners whose cooperation supports regional maritime security.
The Sixth Fleet said the Mohammed VI deployment reflected broader ties built through recurring exercises, training and port visits, including African Lion and Cutlass Express.
