French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu is expected to visit Morocco on July 15-16 at the head of a high-level government delegation of around 12 ministers, marking his first official trip to the kingdom since taking office last September, according to a Hespress source at the French Embassy in Rabat.

The delegation is expected to include ministers overseeing key sovereign and economic portfolios, reflecting France’s intention to deepen its strategic partnership with Morocco and translate recent political commitments into concrete investment and economic projects.

The visit comes as bilateral relations have strengthened significantly following France’s endorsement of Morocco’s autonomy proposal for the Sahara and French President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to the kingdom in October 2024 at the invitation of King Mohammed VI.

According to the French Embassy in Morocco, relations between Rabat and Paris now form part of an “enhanced exceptional partnership” centered on three main pillars: political and strategic cooperation, economic development and social cohesion, and strategic sovereignty, alongside stronger people-to-people ties.

France remains Morocco’s leading economic and financial partner. Bilateral trade reached a record €14.8 billion in 2024, more than doubling compared with 2015, according to the embassy.

The embassy also said Morocco accounts for more than 40% of French exports to Africa, particularly in transport equipment, electronics, chemicals and cosmetics.

More than 950 French subsidiaries operate across Morocco, including nearly all companies listed on France’s CAC 40 index, supporting more than 150,000 jobs in the kingdom—roughly one-third of all jobs created by French companies across Africa.

France is also Morocco’s largest source of remittances and tourism revenue. Moroccans living in France accounted for 30.1% of all remittances received by Morocco in 2023, while French visitors spent more than €3 billion in the kingdom during the same year.
