Spanish police arrested a Brazilian national wanted by authorities in his home country for suspected intentional homicide as he attempted to cross from Ceuta into Morocco, the National Police said.
The arrest took place on June 26 during routine document checks for pedestrians leaving through the Tarajal border crossing.
Police officers discovered that an international arrest warrant issued by Brazilian authorities remained active against the traveller. He was detained immediately and transferred to the Ceuta police headquarters for the completion of legal procedures.
The National Police did not release the suspect’s identity or disclose when and where the alleged homicide occurred.
Because the case involves an international warrant, police notified both the competent judicial authority in Ceuta and a central investigating court at Spain’s National Court, which handles international judicial cooperation and extradition proceedings.
The suspect was expected to appear before a judge once police procedures were completed. The court will determine the next steps in response to Brazil’s request, including whether he should remain in custody while any extradition process is considered.
