A Moroccan YouTuber has sparked widespread outrage after posting a video showing the slaughter of a dead dog during Eid al-Adha, in what he claims is a protest against rising sheep prices.

The influencer, known online as Benesnes, has more than 2.2 million subscribers on YouTube. His content typically features urban exploration and other unconventional outdoor activities.

The video prompted strong reactions on social media, with many users expressing shock and anger. Critics said the act was offensive and unjustifiable, arguing that economic concerns do not warrant harm to animals. Others raised concerns about the influence of online personalities and the potential impact of such content on younger audiences.

The National Organization for the Defense of Animals in Morocco said it has filed a formal complaint with authorities over the incident.

In a statement to Hespress EN, the organization said the act constitutes a serious violation of animal welfare principles and applicable laws, warning that broadcasting such behavior risks normalizing cruelty.

“He is seeking attention,” said Mira Stas, president of the organization. “This is about views and engagement, nothing more.”

Animal welfare groups echoed the criticism, calling for stronger enforcement of existing protections and emphasizing that alternative responses to rising livestock prices are available.

The incident has also reignited broader debate over animal protection in Morocco, including concerns raised by activists about the treatment of stray animals.

Activists are urging authorities to investigate the case and take appropriate legal action, saying it will be a key test of how animal cruelty cases, particularly those amplified on social media, are handled.
