Moroccan police and customs officers at Tanger Med port seized 1,571 narcotic medical pills early Saturday from a foreign-plated car that had arrived by ferry from a European port, security authorities said.
Border checks carried out by police and customs teams uncovered the shipment inside the light vehicle shortly after it entered the port. Authorities said the pills were made up of several types of controlled medical substances.
The driver and a passenger were arrested, including one person with Spanish nationality. Both were placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
Investigators are working to determine the circumstances of the attempted smuggling operation and identify any local or international links to the case.
