Morocco’s royal family and the Moroccan people will celebrate on Friday the 23rd birthday of Moulay El Hassan, an occasion marked by a growing public and institutional role for the heir to the throne over the past year.
Born on May 8, 2003, at the Royal Palace in Rabat, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan was named in tribute to his grandfather, the late King Hassan II.
The anniversary comes days after King Mohammed VI appointed the crown prince as coordinator of the offices and services of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, expanding his formal responsibilities within Morocco’s military institution.
Over the past year, the crown prince has presided over several high profile national events, including the opening ceremony of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat, the inauguration of the Mohammed VI Tower, and the opening of the 31st International Publishing and Book Fair.
He also chaired military ceremonies, equestrian competitions and youth sporting celebrations, while representing King Mohammed VI during a number of official and religious events.
Morocco’s monarchy has traditionally introduced crown princes gradually into military, diplomatic and ceremonial duties as part of preparations for future state responsibilities.
