Moroccan royal gendarmerie officers in Massa foiled an international drug trafficking attempt on Sunday as a shipment was preparing to leave from Sidi Boulfdail beach in Chtouka Ait Baha province, according to local reports.
The operation led to the seizure of around 2.5 tonnes of hashish packed in bundles intended for international trafficking, Hespress reported, citing available information from the scene.
Officers also confiscated two inflatable boats, three jet engines and a set of equipment believed to have been used in the smuggling operation.
The intervention was carried out by personnel from the territorial center of the Royal Gendarmerie in Massa before the shipment could depart by sea.
Gendarmerie services have opened a preliminary investigation to identify those involved, track possible accomplices and bring suspects before the courts.
