Morocco’s National Union of the Moroccan Press (SNPM) denounced a recent Israeli law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners during a gathering at the Palestinian embassy in Rabat on Friday, marking Palestinian Prisoners’ Day.
The event brought together union members, political and civil society figures, including human rights officials, in a show of solidarity that organizers framed as both political and legal. The SNPM said the law violates “fundamental principles of international law,” including the right to life and fair trial guarantees.
Participants focused on the legal implications of the measure, calling for greater international scrutiny of detention conditions and judicial procedures. Similar protests and mobilizations have taken place across Morocco in recent weeks in response to the law and the situation of Palestinian detainees.
Abdelhafid Oualalou, vice president of a Moroccan association supporting the Palestinian cause, said the gathering aimed “to say no to the law,” describing it as a measure that “condemns prisoners to death” and contradicts international conventions.
The SNPM also cited practices including administrative detention, restricted family visits and the treatment of women and minors among its concerns.
Organizers said the initiative would continue through advocacy efforts targeting international organizations and human rights groups.
