Morocco raises prices on Casa, Camel and Marquise as new tobacco lines enter market

Morocco raised prices again on several mass-market cigarette brands from April 1, lifting the cost of Casa, Camel Activate, Marquise Classic and Marvel under a new customs circular that also brings in new heated tobacco products and removes some older lines from the official sales list.

The customs administration said Circular No. 6730/214, dated March 31, covers retail prices for manufactured tobacco and took effect on April 1.

Casa now sells for 31.5 dirhams a pack, up from 31 dirhams, while Camel Activate and Camel Double Activate are set at 36 dirhams.

Marquise Classic rises to 31 dirhams and Marvel to 31.5 dirhams. Some Gauloises variants move the other way, dropping to 28 dirhams from 29 to 30 dirhams previously.

The new price grid introduces Manchester cigarettes at 30 dirhams a pack, launches a new heated tobacco range sold under the Blends label at 28 dirhams, and adds Pueblo rolling tobacco at 65 dirhams for a 30 gram pouch.

Morocco had already raised tobacco prices on Jan. 1, with earlier increases of 0.5 to 2 dirhams a pack affecting entry and mid range brands. Casa had already climbed from 29 to 31 dirhams in that first round.

The April revision sits inside the gradual reform of the domestic consumption tax, designed to narrow the price gap between low cost and premium cigarettes, and lift tax receipts.
