Morocco will host Portugal as guest of honor at the 18th International Agriculture Show in Meknes from April 20 to 28, as Rabat uses this year’s SIAM fair to deepen cooperation on livestock production and food sovereignty after years of drought pressure on the farm sector.

Organisers said the 2026 edition will run for nine days under the theme “Sustainability of Animal Production and Food Sovereignty,” with Portugal chosen for its role in agricultural innovation and euro African cooperation.

Digital and trade press reports said the choice follows previous editions that highlighted France and Spain, reinforcing Morocco’s strategy of drawing on European agricultural expertise while positioning itself as a bridge between Europe and Africa.

Moroccan agriculture specialists cited by Hespress said Portugal’s strengths in mechanised livestock farming, breeding research and farm innovation matched Morocco’s current needs as it seeks to improve productivity and resilience.
