General Directorate of Civil Protection is preparing for the upcoming summer season by launching recruitment and training for seasonal lifeguards to be deployed across beaches in Morocco.
Regional civil protection units have announced competitive selection processes to recruit young lifeguards aged between 20 and 40, with exams scheduled for April. Successful candidates will be assigned to beach surveillance duties from May 1 through the end of September 2026, depending on local needs.
The selection process will include practical tests such as timed swimming, rescue simulations involving mannequins, and first aid assessments to evaluate candidates’ ability to respond to drowning incidents.
In Nador, authorities said lifeguard operations will run throughout the summer season, with monthly compensation set at around 3,200 dirhams. Similar recruitment campaigns are planned in several coastal areas, including Sidi Ifni, Kenitra, Larache, M’diq-Fnideq, and Agadir Ida-Ou Tanane.
The initiative is part of annual efforts to ensure beach safety during peak tourist months, when coastal areas see heavy visitor traffic. Authorities rely on seasonal lifeguards to support permanent teams in preventing drowning incidents and responding to emergencies.
According to Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit, more than 3,300 seasonal lifeguards were deployed nationwide during the last summer season. He noted that the program addresses the challenges of ensuring swimmer safety across the country’s extensive coastline, with recruits receiving specialized training after passing the selection process.
Officials added that compensation for seasonal lifeguards has gradually increased in recent years, alongside the introduction of workplace injury insurance coverage since 2021.
