The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has registered an appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) over the outcome of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 final.
The appeal, filed on March 25, challenges a CAF decision issued on March 17 declaring Senegal’s national team to have forfeited the final and awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory.
In its submission, the FSF requested that the decision be annulled and that Senegal be declared the winner of the tournament. It also asked for a suspension of the deadline to file its full appeal brief until the detailed grounds of CAF’s decision are communicated, noting that the initial ruling only included the verdict of the CAF Appeals Jury.
CAS said an arbitration panel will be appointed to hear the case, after which a procedural timetable will be established. Under CAS rules, appellants have 20 days to submit a detailed brief, followed by another 20 days for respondents to file their defense. However, timelines remain uncertain at this stage due to the FSF’s request to suspend the deadline.
CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb said the court is equipped to handle such disputes with independent arbitrators and will aim to proceed as swiftly as possible while ensuring a fair process for all parties.
The arbitration proceedings remain confidential, and further updates will be provided if a hearing is scheduled.
