The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco recorded a 61% increase in viewership, positioning the tournament among the fastest-growing sports properties worldwide, writes the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

“Record breaking global coverage secured across leading media platforms in Europe and other key markets is behind this unprecedented growth. The United Kingdom (UK) and France are the leading territories that contributed the lion’s share of the growth for the AFCON Morocco 2025,” CAF published on its website.

The United Kingdom and France are the leading territories that contributed the lion’s share of this rise in viewership for AFCON 2025, CAF added, noting that CAF’s commercial partnership with global sports marketing agency IMG resulted in a 50% increase in the number of broadcast partners in Europe and other key markets.

This expansion included first-time deals in Japan, China, South Korea, Mexico, Greece and Colombia, making the AFCON Morocco 2025 the most widely distributed edition of the tournament globally to date, it notes.

In South America, audiences continued to grow, with more than 24 million viewers in Brazil, while Mexico recorded nearly 2 million viewers. These figures confirm that South America has become a region where CAF is strengthening its presence while attracting new audiences.

Additionally, CAF’s global media distribution strategy, which included in-house shoulder content production and highlights distribution, resulted in over 65% rise in media exposure of brand partners in the European and South American territories alone, according to the governing body of African football.

Among the key figures from this edition, CAF highlights a 50% increase in the number of international broadcasters since the 2023 edition held in Côte d’Ivoire, as well as a 32% uplift in media value for partners in the European market.

CAF also reports a 35% increase in overall revenues linked to media rights in South American, European, and Asian markets for AFCON Morocco 2025, along with a strong rise in viewership in the United Kingdom (final only), where more than 3 million viewers watched the final on Channel 4.

Germany recorded a record audience for the AFCON final, with more than 4 million viewers watching the match on Sports Digital, CAF noted. It also added that India has emerged as a new market for the competition, with around 800,000 football fans streaming the final.
