Achraf Hakimi has reacted publicly for the first time to Morocco’s coaching change, paying tribute to former coach Walid Regragui while welcoming his successor Mohamed Ouahbi. Regragui stepped down on March 5, with the Moroccan federation naming Ouahbi as head coach ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Speaking after Paris Saint-Germain’s 5-2 win over Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie, Hakimi praised Regragui’s contribution to Moroccan football and the historic run achieved under his leadership, which included the 2022 World Cup semi final and a 19 match winning streak.

“I welcome the new coach and his staff,” Hakimi said, adding that Morocco’s objective is “to prepare well for the 2026 World Cup.” He said the squad would “work seriously and give all our efforts” to achieve more success under Ouahbi. Morocco face Ecuador on March 27 and Paraguay four days later in Ouahbi’s first matches in charge.
