Rising global jet fuel prices are increasing pressure on airlines operating in Morocco and could eventually force ticket price increases, according to an industry source cited by Hespress, as carriers worldwide grapple with a sharp jump in fuel costs tied to the Middle East war.
Reuters reported this week that jet fuel prices have risen far faster than crude oil prices, with some benchmarks doubling since the conflict began, pushing airlines toward fare hikes, fuel surcharges and capacity cuts.
Fuel remains one of the largest cost items for airlines, typically accounting for about 25 percent to 30 percent of total expenses, according to IATA.
Royal Air Maroc has not publicly announced a ticket price increase so far, but if elevated oil and jet fuel prices persist, airlines in Morocco are likely to face the same market pressures already affecting carriers elsewhere.
