UAE says air defences intercept Iranian ballistic missiles as debris kills one in Abu Dhabi
Saturday 28 February 2026 - 10:00

The United Arab Emirates said it was hit on Saturday by Iranian ballistic missiles, with air defences intercepting several projectiles, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement carried by the state news agency WAM.

Authorities said falling debris struck a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing material damage and killing one person of Asian nationality. The ministry said security conditions were under control and that relevant agencies were monitoring developments around the clock.

The ministry condemned the attack and said the UAE rejects targeting civilians and national facilities, calling the incident a serious escalation that threatens civilian safety and regional stability. It said the strike violated UAE sovereignty and international law and that the state reserves the right to respond and take measures needed to protect its territory, citizens and residents. No further casualties were reported.

The ministry urged the public to rely on official sources and avoid rumours.
