Authorities outline phased return for evacuees in northern Larache

Local authorities in Larache Province have announced a comprehensive operational plan to ensure the safe and orderly return of residents temporarily evacuated following exceptional weather conditions that affected the region.

In a statement received by local media, the provincial authorities said the plan is designed to facilitate a gradual return by defining designated transportation, secure travel routes and on-the-ground supervision to ensure smooth operations and public safety throughout all stages of the process.

The return is set to begin Sunday, Feb. 15, for residents of several neighborhoods in the city of Ksar El Kebir, after assessments confirmed that conditions in those areas are suitable for reentry.

The first phase will cover neighborhoods under the first through sixth administrative districts, including parts of the old city and newer residential areas such as Bab Al-Wad, Ghrassat Benjloun, Chariaa, Al-Salam, Al-Hay Al-Jadid, Al-Nahda, Al-Saada, Al-Massira, Al-Orouba, Al-Shorafa and Abi Al-Mahasin, among others deemed ready to receive residents under appropriate conditions.

To support the operation, authorities said free public transportation will be provided to returning residents. Beginning at 7 a.m. Sunday, free trains will operate from Tangier to Ksar El Kebir. Free bus services will also be deployed from multiple locations to facilitate travel, ease logistical burdens and ensure organized movement.

Officials stressed that the return will take place in phases, depending on developments on the ground. Additional neighborhoods and timelines for subsequent stages will be announced later through official notices and available communication channels, based on safety assessments and preparedness.

Authorities urged residents to strictly adhere to the instructions and avoid traveling to areas not yet authorized for return until official clearance is issued and water levels recede to ensure safe access and adequate living conditions.

To enforce these measures, checkpoints will be established at entry points to the designated areas to ensure access is limited to authorized residents. The authorities said the arrangements aim to restore normal life gradually while maintaining safety and order.
