Authorities in Morocco’s Taza province have mobilized emergency resources to secure road networks and ensure public safety following exceptionally heavy rainfall recorded across the region, officials said.

The move follows weather alerts issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology warning of intense precipitation and difficult conditions in several areas of the province.

According to Hespress AR sources at the Taza provincial administration, Gov. Rachid Benchikhi led on-the-ground inspections to assess the implementation of preventive and precautionary measures under the provincial emergency plan. The plan aims to limit potential risks linked to heavy rain, in line with royal instructions calling for heightened protection of citizens during periods of severe rain and snowfall.

Authorities have raised alert levels and deployed all available logistical and human resources, including equipment from the regional directorate of equipment and transport, local councils and inter-municipal cooperation bodies, the sources said.

Field teams were stationed near vulnerable road sections to reinforce areas affected by landslides, erosion and runoff. Crews cleared rocks, mud and debris, opened alternative routes where necessary and worked to restore traffic flow while ensuring the safety of road users and nearby residents.

The operations covered several major routes, including National Road No. 9 linking Bouiblane and Maghraoua, Regional Road No. 504 between Bouiblane and Imouzzer Marmoucha, and Regional Road No. 508 from Had Oumssila toward Al Kouzat. Interventions also targeted multiple provincial roads connecting Taza to surrounding rural areas, as well as local tracks serving villages in communes such as Beni Frassen, Bouchfaa, Ghiata Al Gharbia, Tazarin, Oumssila, Meknassa Al Sharqia and others.

Maintenance teams from the regional multi-service utility company in Taza also carried out intensive field operations in coordination with local authorities to repair technical faults affecting drinking water supply, electricity and sanitation networks, officials said.

Telecommunications companies deployed technical crews throughout the period of heavy rain, snowfall and strong winds to address repeated and sudden internet service disruptions, the sources added.

No casualties were reported.
