Train services were suspended on Friday on the Fes–Sidi Kacem rail line after flooding affected part of the track, Morocco’s rail operator said, causing disruptions on one of the country’s key transport corridors.
The Office national des chemins de fer said heavy rainfall on January 23 led to flooding between Sidi Mbarek Rdoum and Ain Karma, forcing the precautionary suspension of train traffic from 12:40 p.m.
The operator said the decision was taken to ensure passenger safety as water overflowed onto the track, interrupting circulation on the axis linking Fes to northwestern Morocco.
ONCF said the suspension caused delays and service disruptions on the route, adding that emergency measures were immediately activated to manage the situation.
The rail operator said it had mobilised technical teams and equipment on site and was working to restore normal traffic “as quickly as possible”, without giving a specific timeline for resumption.
The disruption comes as several regions of Morocco experience heavy rainfall, with authorities warning of flooding risks and transport interruptions on road and rail networks.
ONCF said it would continue to update passengers as operations progress and advised travellers to remain attentive to service notices.
