Spanish train drivers will strike for three days in February to “demand measures that guarantee rail safety” after two deadly accidents struck just days apart, their union said on Wednesday.
The February 9-11 walkout will affect all train companies and is “the only legal route left for workers to demand the restoration of the rail system’s safety” for staff and users, the Semaf union said in a statement.
Sunday’s high-speed collision in the southern region of Andalusia, which killed 43 people, and another disaster near Barcelona on Tuesday that left the driver dead “represent a turning point”, the union said.
