Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy and Morocco’s Minister of National Education, Preschool Education and Sports Mohamed Saad Berrada reaffirmed the depth of the historic and fraternal ties between their two countries during a phone call, emphasizing that sporting competition must remain grounded in mutual respect and fair play.
The two ministers said relations between Egypt and Morocco span decades of cooperation and integration across multiple fields, particularly youth and sports, and should not be affected by tensions surrounding athletic events.
Their exchange came as part of joint coordination efforts aimed at easing the sporting atmosphere among fans, with both sides underscoring that sport should serve as a bridge between peoples rather than a source of division. They described sport as an effective form of soft power capable of strengthening relations between nations and supporting closer cooperation among brotherly countries.
Sobhy praised Morocco’s organization of the Africa Cup of Nations, describing the tournament as a success, while rejecting any displays of intolerance or abuse that could undermine the strong ties between Egypt and Morocco or tarnish the image of Arab fans.
For his part, Berrada welcomed the contact, voicing Morocco’s appreciation for the strategic relationship with Egypt and reaffirming Rabat’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote Arab solidarity and spread positive values among young people.
