Morocco is experiencing a week of unstable weather driven by successive active Atlantic low-pressure systems combined with cold air masses at higher atmospheric levels, according to DGM.
Speaking to local media, Hussein Youabed, head of communication at the national weather service, said the conditions are drawing moist air toward the country, creating favourable conditions for rainfall of varying intensity, including locally thundery showers, particularly across northern regions and mountainous areas.
He said the interaction between moisture and falling temperatures is expected to bring significant snowfall over the High and Middle Atlas, the Rif and the eastern high plateaus, with cold to very cold conditions persisting in mountainous and inland areas.
On Monday, rain is forecast in several regions, alongside snowfall in the Atlas ranges and eastern high plateaus, with possible snow in the Rif. Strong winds are also expected, particularly in southern parts of the Oriental region, the south-east and the Atlas, potentially causing local dust storms.
Rainy and snowy conditions are set to continue on Tuesday, with snowfall over the Atlas and Rif and rain across northern Atlantic plains, Tangier, the Loukkos basin, Saiss and parts of the eastern region.
Minimum temperatures are expected to range between –9°C and –2°C in the High and Middle Atlas and 0°C to 6°C elsewhere, with a slight daytime increase.
The weather service said unsettled conditions are likely to persist through the end of the week and urged road users in mountainous areas to remain vigilant and follow official weather updates.
