The Confederation of African Football has opened a formal investigation into incidents that occurred during two Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal matches at the Morocco 2025 tournament, citing what it described as “unacceptable behavior” by some players and officials.

In a statement received by Hespress, CAF said it has compiled official match reports and video evidence related to the quarterfinals between Morocco and Cameroon, and Algeria and Nigeria. The governing body said the incidents could constitute disciplinary violations and have been referred to CAF’s disciplinary committee for review and possible sanctions.

CAF said it would not hesitate to impose appropriate penalties if any breaches of its regulations are confirmed.

The continental football body also said it is reviewing video footage linked to an incident in the mixed zone, where some media representatives are suspected of engaging in unprofessional conduct. The investigation, CAF said, covers all parties who may have violated disciplinary rules.

CAF strongly condemned any inappropriate behavior during matches, particularly actions targeting match officials or organizers, stressing that sportsmanship and professionalism remain core principles that will be strictly enforced at all its competitions.

The statement concluded by reaffirming CAF’s commitment to taking firm action against anyone whose conduct is found to be incompatible with the ethical and professional standards governing African football competitions.
