Residents of Anergui, a rural center in Morocco’s Azilal province, have faced days of severe isolation after heavy snowfall blocked roads and mountain paths, cutting off access to nearby towns and basic services.
The situation began to ease after provincial authorities ordered emergency works to reopen the road linking Anergui to Takaft, with traffic expected to resume within hours.
Local residents, particularly elderly people and patients, had struggled to reach health facilities as harsh weather compounded daily hardships in the mountainous area.
On the ground, local authorities and Royal Gendarmerie units supervised snow-clearing operations, despite difficult conditions that forced some vehicles to navigate snow-covered and rugged sections.
Heavy machinery was deployed to remove accumulated snow, allowing crews to make significant progress toward fully restoring access.
The intervention helped reduce growing anxiety among residents, who hope long-term road upgrades will prevent recurring isolation during winter storms.
