French daily L’Équipe reported that Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé arrived in Rabat early Thursday afternoon, accompanied by members of his family, to attend Friday’s Africa Cup of Nations match between Morocco and Mali.
According to the newspaper, Mbappé accepted an invitation from his close friend Achraf Hakimi, with whom he shares a long-standing personal and professional relationship dating back to their time at Paris Saint-Germain. Mbappé is traveling with his parents and his younger brother Ethan, taking advantage of a brief break from club duties.
The report said Mbappé is expected to visit the Moroccan team’s delegation during his stay and spend time with Hakimi, who is nearing a return to action after recovering from an ankle injury sustained in early November.
L’Équipe added that Mbappé is likely to remain in Morocco until Monday, Dec. 29, when Real Madrid resume training, and could attend additional AFCON matches during his stay.
Morocco currently lead Group A with three points following a 2–0 win over Comoros, while Mali and Zambia drew 1–1 in their opening match.
