Morocco’s House of Councillors on Wednesday unanimously approved a bill to reorganize the National Press Council, despite a walkout by opposition groups during the legislative session.
The vote cleared Bill No. 026.25, which seeks to restructure the country’s press self-regulatory body, after opposition members withdrew from the chamber ahead of the vote.
Those who left the session included representatives of the Haraki group, the Socialist group–Federal Opposition Union, the Moroccan Workers’ Union, the Democratic Confederation of Labour, and advisers from the National Union of Labour in Morocco.
The withdrawal meant the bill was passed by consensus among the remaining members present in the chamber.
