Tinghir is experiencing an exceptional tourism surge ahead of the 2026 New Year holidays, with hotel bookings described by local operators as “very strong,” signaling the province’s growing position as a strategic winter destination.
Official data from the Ouarzazate regional tourism office show 24,522 arrivals and 28,790 overnight stays between January and November, marking increases of 91 percent and 98 percent year over year.
Tourism operators expect more than 35,000 arrivals and over 40,000 overnight stays during the New Year period, driven largely by international demand, which accounts for 73 percent of confirmed bookings.
They say the trend reflects rising global confidence in Tinghir’s infrastructure and services.
Todra Gorge continues to play a major role in this growth, capturing 70 percent of foreign reservations and drawing visitors seeking mountain adventure, tranquility or “simple luxury.”
Operators note that Tinghir is now attracting a diverse mix of travelers, from European families to young adventure seekers, thanks to a maturing tourism offering that blends Amazigh hospitality, authenticity and environmental stewardship.
Local tourism officials attribute the boom to investments since 2022 in trail rehabilitation, service quality upgrades and cultural programming, as well as targeted digital promotion in European markets.
