The economic output of Morocco’s tourism sector rebounded in 2024, with official data showing the activity’s contribution rising sharply compared with 2019. According to the most recent release by the Haut‑Commissariat au Plan, the “tourism GDP” reached 116.2 billion dirhams in 2024, up from 83.9 billion dirhams in 2019, a 38.4 percent increase.
The share of tourism in overall GDP rose to 7.3 percent in 2024, compared with 6.8 percent in 2019.
Underlying this growth, “net taxes minus subsidies on tourism products” climbed by 46 percent, reflecting stronger demand and fiscal flows linked to tourism activity.
Simultaneously, internal tourism consumption surged by 42.6 percent to 201.7 billion dirhams in 2024, a combination of stronger “incoming tourism expenditure” (up 46.8 percent to 136.9 billion) and domestic outbound/intra-Morocco tourism spending (up 34.6 percent to 64.8 billion).
According to the commission, incoming tourism now accounts for 67.9 percent of total tourism consumption.
At the same time, gross output in the sector rose to 181.9 billion dirhams in 2024, a 42.3 percent increase compared with 2019, while value added reached 96.4 billion dirhams, up 37 percent.
These results align with official figures on tourist arrivals and revenues. The Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy reported a record 17.4 million visitors in 2024, a 20 percent increase versus 2023.
Total foreign-currency tourism revenues reached 112.5 billion dirhams in 2024, up 7 percent compared with 2023, affirming “exceptional” sector recovery.
The rebound illustrates the effectiveness of Morocco’s 2023–2026 tourism roadmap, which promotes improved air connectivity, the opening of new destinations, hotel upgrades and diversification beyond coastal and traditional circuits.
