Morocco has earmarked more than 78 billion dirhams to develop a clean, multimodal and accessible public transport system by 2029, the president of the Casablanca-Settat regional council, Abdellatif Maâzouz, said at a COP30 side event in Belém, Brazil.
Maâzouz said 11 billion dirhams will fund the purchase of 3,750 new-generation buses, while 67 billion dirhams are allocated to “transports en site propre,” including tramways, regional express rail and regional trains.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Interior’s Directorate General of Local Authorities and the Moroccan Association of Municipal Council Presidents.
He said the Casablanca-Settat region alone has committed nearly 25 billion dirhams to transport infrastructure, representing around 40 percent of its updated regional development plan. The region’s strategy prioritises an integrated “train–tramway” backbone, supported by a modernised bus network and a digital multimodal platform providing real-time passenger information.
Maâzouz said the expansion of urban, peri-urban and rural road networks has helped improve traffic flow and reduce emissions, citing air-quality data from monitoring stations showing improvements between 2023 and 2025.
Is there is two regions in Morocco or what , what about other regions ?
