A branch of Moroccan football club Wydad Athletic Club’s supporters set off smoke flares and fireworks in western Paris Friday night to mark the 20th anniversary of their fan association, the Ultras Winners 2005.
Videos shared on social media show smoke and flags on the Grenelle and Mirabeau bridges in the 15th arrondissement. According to Le Parisien, the gathering was “completely illegal” and had not been authorized in advance. A police investigation has been opened and assigned to the Paris territorial security unit.

Philippe Goujon, mayor of the 15th arrondissement, told BFMTV that authorities had not been informed. “The public order was disrupted. This is completely unacceptable,” he said. Goujon added that while no damage occurred, the fireworks were a brief, unauthorized challenge to public authority and could have been dangerous.
Police sources told Le Parisien that the event lasted only about two minutes and did not require a formal response. They could not confirm whether the social media images had been amplified using artificial intelligence.
Wydad, Morocco’s most decorated football club with 22 league titles, currently sits second in the national championship after seven matches. Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech, a 2021 UEFA Champions League winner with Chelsea, recently joined the team.
