Morocco’s Embassy in Washington hosted a remarkable reception on Saturday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Glorious Green March, in the presence of several members of the Moroccan community living in the United States.

The event featured the screening of a documentary retracing the milestones of the Green March, highlighting both its powerful symbolic and patriotic significance, as well as the latest developments relating to Morocco’s foremost national cause, notably the Royal Speech delivered on October 31, following the adoption by the UN Security Council of a historic resolution on the Moroccan Sahara.

In his remarks, Morocco’s ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, underscored the strategic vision of the Kingdom’s foreign policy, under the clear-sighted leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, built around the centrality of the Moroccan Sahara issue and the major turning point represented by Security Council Resolution 2797.

The ambassador stressed that, in line with the content of the Royal Speech, the issue of the Moroccan Sahara remains a cause for national unity and territorial integrity. He also emphasized the importance of mobilizing support for the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as the “only serious, credible, and realistic solution” to this artificial regional dispute.

Referring to Resolution 2797, Youssef Amrani highlighted that it represents a “historic diplomatic milestone,” enshrines the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as the sole basis for any political solution, and crowns “years of diplomatic action, alliance building and strengthening the credibility of the Moroccan project led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI.”

This momentum, he explained, is backed by steadily growing international support, reflected in the favorable positions of a wide range of countries across five continents, the opening of multiple consular representations in Laayoune and Dakhla, and the confidence shown by international investors -particularly Americans-, in the potential of the Kingdom’s southern provinces.

Highlighting the importance of parallel diplomacy and the mobilization of all national stakeholders, Amrani paid tribute to the Moroccan community in the United States, describing it as the “front line of citizen diplomacy,” whose members proudly and consistently demonstrate their attachment to their homeland.

The ambassador also underscored the community’s contribution to Morocco’s cultural and economic influence in the United States, as well as its role as a bridge between the two nations.
