Upper House Speaker Mohamed Ould Errachid held talks on Tuesday with a delegation from the EU-Moroccan Joint Parliamentary Committee, led by Ruggero Razza, Co-Chair of the Committee.
The meeting took place in Rabat as part of efforts to strengthen the distinguished partnership relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the European Union.
According to a statement from the House, the meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the deep Moroccan-European relations, which are based on shared history, geographic proximity, and mutual interests.
They also highlighted the firm commitment of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to promoting Morocco’s human and material capital and to pursuing the country’s comprehensive reform and development process across all regions.
In this context, Ould Errachid underlined the special status Morocco enjoys with the European Union since being granted the “Advanced Status” in 2008, a comprehensive framework for dialogue and cooperation that goes beyond economic and trade aspects to include political, security, energy, and social development fields.
Regarding security and migration issues, both parties reaffirmed the strategic nature of Morocco-EU cooperation in addressing shared challenges, particularly in the fight against terrorism, organized crime, and irregular migration.
The European delegation praised Morocco’s pioneering efforts, under the wise leadership of His Majesty the King, in managing migration flows and combating human trafficking networks.
The two sides also discussed prospects for cooperation in the fields of energy and environmental transition, emphasizing Morocco’s leading role in renewable energies, particularly solar and wind power, as well as its active participation in the Union for the Mediterranean initiatives and in electric interconnection and green energy projects.
These efforts contribute to strengthening supply security and achieving carbon neutrality goals for both parties.
