Authorities in Martil have opened an administrative investigation after the area surrounding the town’s day hospital was found littered with construction debris, discarded furniture and household waste, according to a Hespress AR source.
The source said the local authorities in the prefecture of M’diq-Fnideq have requested detailed reports on the situation. The waste management company contracted for the area has reportedly cleaned the site several times, but unknown individuals continue dumping waste, turning the hospital’s surroundings into an unsanctioned landfill.
The vacant lots near the hospital have also become gathering spots for vagrants and drug users, particularly due to the lack of street lighting along the road connecting the public day clinic to the “Mixta” neighborhood, the source added.
Monitoring teams are now tracking individuals and vehicles involved in illegal dumping to file official violation reports and pursue legal action, which could include fines or court referrals in cases of repeat offenses.
The problem extends beyond the hospital area, affecting residential zones and public facilities across Martil, according to the same source. Authorities have stressed that construction waste must be disposed of at designated sites far from residential areas, rather than in household bins or near public institutions.
The investigation, the source said, offers an opportunity to enforce Morocco’s waste management and cleanliness laws, particularly Law No. 14-113 on local authorities, to ensure higher environmental standards and protect the city’s urban landscape under the responsibility of the Martil municipal council.
