Russian agricultural authorities in the Kaliningrad region have intercepted and quarantined a one-ton shipment of fresh Moroccan tomatoes found to be contaminated with the tomato brown wrinkle virus and the pepino mosaic virus.
The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance in the Kaliningrad region (Rosselkhoznadzor) confirmed that laboratory tests conducted by the Kaliningrad branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Animal Husbandry verified the contamination.
The seizure was part of a phytosanitary inspection of five tons of fruits and vegetables at the control post of the Sirius temporary storage warehouse.
The source added that since the beginning of 2025, authorities have identified 175 cases of tomato infections in Moroccan, Tunisian, and Turkish shipments, involving the tomato brown wrinkle virus, tomato spotted wilt virus, and pepino mosaic virus.
