The Spanish Guardia Civil announced the seizure of nearly 6.7 tons of cannabis resin in two separate operations carried out over the weekend in the Strait of Gibraltar, with the support of maritime units from Algeciras and Ceuta.

The first intervention took place Saturday when patrols detected a suspicious speedboat one nautical mile south of Punta Camarinal. After a chase involving a Ceuta unit, the traffickers jettisoned their cargo. Authorities recovered 56 bundles weighing 2.2 tons.

On Sunday, September 14, forces intercepted another speedboat south of Tarifa, arresting six people after they threw 116 bundles overboard. The haul amounted to more than 4.5 tons.

Combined, the two operations netted 6.7 tons of cannabis, with an estimated market value exceeding 9 million euros. The seized drugs and detainees have been referred to Spanish judicial authorities for further proceedings, according to the Guardia Civil.
